Cornice Molding, cove molding or crown moldings has graced cottages and castles alike for centuries, but is uncommon in modern homes, mainly because it's difficult and time-consuming to install.
Traditionally, elaborate cornice molding was either made from moulded plaster sections, or built from solid wood such as oak, then cut to fit around the room. Primed paint-grade wood (pine or poplar) and MDF Moldings are the most popular types of molding. Any gaps can be filled with paintable caulk and covered with paint, whereas flaws in stainable solid wood molding is harder to mask.
Today's easy-install, MDF Moldings are easier to paint and offer a variety of decorative profiles and can be cut more easily than solid wood. It's a smart idea to prime the moldings before they go up. All Deco Trim cornices are pre-primed and ready to paint.
